Do you have “play more video games” on your New Year’s resolutions list? Maybe you should — it’s a great way to relax and keep busy during the harsh winter months. What's cozier than curling up on the couch with a controller and a new game for your Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo Switch? Walmart has some great selections on sale right now — titles to keep you entertained and transport you far beyond the four walls of home.

Still looking for a PlayStation 5? If you didn’t score one over the holidays, we’ve got a great tip for you: Walmart puts some units aside for Walmart+ customers, meaning you get first dibs if you subscribe! You get free shipping on unlimited orders of eligible merch, which can even include groceries. You receive your goods quickly — overnight, or in some cases, the very same day. Walmart+ is only $13 a month, or $98 a year, and you get two free weeks to start. Just keep in mind that you’ll have to be out of that free trial period to access the special members-only sale, but it’s better than paying eBay prices.

If you really need a winter challenge, then Demon Souls should be right up your alley. The Dark Souls games are notoriously difficult, and this title is where it all started. Well, with a bit of a facelift for the PlayStation 5. This is actually a full remake, with graphics, audio and everything else redone to look “amazing” on your next-gen system. And it's only $40 right now, down 43 percent from it's normal price!

Shoppers say it’s “a wonderful launch title that shouldn’t be overlooked.” And though it’s “not for beginners,” another gamer offers some sage advice: “[The] key to [the] game is patience, guarding, dodging and backstab. Take your time, enjoy the beautiful detailed scenery and don't rush into a fight, and you'll love this game.” We’ll take that to heart!

Vikings are cool, and we’re not just saying that because they live way up north! This epic title lets you live the life of a Norseman… or Norsewoman (you get to choose your gender). You can go on raids, fight vicious battles and experience a grand, sweeping saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe. But you don’t need to be familiar with the series to get started — in fact, this game is a great starting point for this immersive series, with a fun history lesson to boot!

Gamers certainly love it, with one shopper calling it “one of the best open world games I have played.” That’s because “there is so much to do in this game, so many ways to build your character, so many ways to engage in combat. The graphics are amazing and finally a game where you can play as a Viking! This game has over 100 hours of gameplay. Highly recommended!”

If your family gamer won't receive the PS5 this year, they still deserve a few new games to enjoy. There are still a lot of great games being released for the PS4 system, and there are plenty of deals to be had for titles old and new.

One popular new game is Final Fantasy VII Remake. The original was an instant classic upon its release back in 1997, and this remake gives it a super slick facelift.

A fan of the original says even though they hesitated to buy this new one, they were “not disappointed,” adding that it’s “faithful to the original story with a twist! Better storytelling with the improved graphics.”

Life is Strange isn’t your typical video game series. It’s a narrative adventure game that follows the turbulent story of a troubled teen, Chloe Price. It’s like a soap opera, with episodes and everything. If you like drama, this game has it in spades. Before the Storm is a prequel game to the main Life is Strange titles, taking place three years before the first game in the series. It’s good for newbies, as well as people who’d like to try out this type of game without the super-powered heroics that populate later installments. And it's only $8, a whopping 74 percent off!

In the Katamari Damacy series, you create stars (the kind in the sky) by rolling around a sticky ball that grabs everything in its path. Sound weird? Well it is, and it’s not long before you’re grabbing pets, people and even entire buildings. Normally, this crazy action game would run you $30 if purchased directly from Nintendo; right now at Walmart it’s just $20.

One player calls it a "fun, physics-based game that has the main character rolling a katamari ball over increasingly larger objects in order to create stars. [...] The controls are intentionally slightly unwieldy, but that's just part of the fun. This game is an insane riot!" This title will definitely bring some laughs.

This might sound a little crazy, but this role-playing game based on the crude cartoon from Comedy Central is actually really good. The city of South Park is fun to explore, the dialogue is razor-sharp and there are great items to discover. The combat is also awesome. We can't recommend South Park: The Fractured But Whole enough, and right now you can give it a shot for only $15, a whopping 76 percent discount off its regular price.

Shoppers agree, with one saying "If you like the show, you'll love the game. All the characters from the show coming together for a hilarious game that's just a good time."
