Video Transcript

KRISTIN MYERS: We're joined by Yahoo Finance's tech expert, Dan Howley. Hey, Dan.

DAN HOWLEY: Hey, Kristin, that's right. They're going to be testing these drones in Fayetteville, North Carolina. And yeah, they'll be used to deliver groceries as well as some household essentials. They've got approval from the FAA, and basically, they will be able to fly these drones. And the idea is to get an idea of what consumers and workers think of them, how they want to use them, how often they use them, things along those lines. And they're not, by the way, the first major company to be working with drones. Amazon, obviously, already working with them.

They recently got approval to do the same, and UPS is doing this as well. Google even has an arm of its own that's working on drone delivery, and, you know, the thinking is, well, what's going to stop people from batting down drones with groceries? And, you know, I've spoken to experts before who say they'll fly up pretty high, and what's otherwise stopping someone from taking packages off of a mail truck that you might see parked in the street? So there's going to be a lot of getting used to here, but it could end up being our future in the next 10, 15 years maybe.

KRISTIN MYERS: All right, thanks so much, Dan.
