Want to announce a Sacramento-area event? The Bee can get the word out — and it’s free

When I arrived in California a couple of years ago, everyone I met was quick to tell me that Sacramento is a happening place.

The city is growing. The restaurant scene is vibrant. Heck, the Kings are winning. And on any given day, there’s plenty to do.

But when things are, in fact, happening in Sacramento, how will you know?

Sacbee.com is an excellent source of news and information about major community events. Want to find out who’s headlining the Sol Blume R&B festival? Have you marked your calendar for this year’s Farm-to-Fork Festival? We’ve got you covered.

But where do you look if you want details about the Sactown Run? Maybe you want to check out a show at a midtown art gallery. Perhaps you’d like to support a good cause and attend a small fundraiser for a local charity.

The Bee wants to help connect you with events of all kinds, even if they’re not making headlines. And we want to make it easy for you to get the word out about your organization’s events.

That’s why we’ve launched The Bee’s Community Marketplace, where you can self-publish information about a local event. And the price is right: It’s free to post up to five lines of text.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Go to sacbee.com and click “classifieds” in the drop-down menu at the top left of the page. Then click “place a classified ad.”

  • Next, click the “announcements” tab and select “community events.”

  • Then just follow the instructions to publish your event listing.

You can create an account for free, and you can upload a photo with your post. Once you register to create an item, the first five lines are free, and additional lines of text will cost $1.50 per line per day.

That’s the quick overview, but you can find more detailed, step-by-step instructions in this handy guide to posting events and announcements.

At The Bee, we’re expanding our efforts to connect with readers where they live and help them navigate life in the Sacramento area.

The Community Marketplace is one way to do that. But we’re doing much more.

We’ve launched free hyperlocal newsletters focused on Folsom and Roseville. Every week, we’ll deliver the latest community news about dining, shopping, real estate, schools and more to your inbox. And we’ll seek your input about the Folsom and Roseville-related topics you’d like us to cover.

The Bee’s team of service journalists also want to know what questions you have about Sacramento. That’s why they created Bee Curious, a community-driven reporting project focused on answering your questions about the curiosities and quirks of the place we call home. Submit a question here, and our team will dig into it.

If you’re sensing a theme, you’re right: We want to hear from you.

Please share your questions and suggestions with our team. And the next time your organization wants to draw a crowd, try out The Bee’s Community Marketplace. Then let me know what you think. You can share your feedback with me at cnelson@sacbee.com.
