The family of a 64-year-old man who was struck down while cycling in Saddle Ridge in northeast Calgary in mid-December is appealing for the public's help to track down the driver who fled the scene, as police release images of the car.

"Simply, we want justice for our father," James, the son of the 64-year-old man who was hit, said in a police news release issued Thursday.

Police did not give his surname or publicly identify the cyclist.

"You'd be the same if it was your father, too.… We're asking northeast Calgary to unite with us; please speak up and come clean if you know anything," said James.

His father was struck down at Saddletowne Circle, near the intersection with 80th Avenue N.E., at about 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 15 by a car travelling eastbound on 80th Avenue N.E.

The driver did not stop, continuing southbound on Saddletowne Circle, police said.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is still recovering.

"We firmly believe this vehicle is somewhere in our city and that someone knows its whereabouts. We are calling on the public to come forward with any information about the vehicle or the driver involved in this incident," said Calgary Police Service traffic Sgt. Colin Foster.

Police also released this CCTV image of the car involved in the hit and run, saying it likely had damage to its grille and hood that may have since been repaired.
