Warrant issued for teen wanted in OC Transpo pepper spraying

Police have issued an arrest warrant for an 18-year-old man accused of using pepper spray on a OC Transpo bus passenger last month — then allegedly sending a youth to the city's police station to be arrested in his place.

The passenger was sprayed in the face on Route 96 around 12:30 p.m. Jan. 27 near the intersection of Bank and Slater streets.

Other passengers were affected by the spray but no one was taken to hospital, Ottawa police said at the time.

Police were able to identify the man after sharing surveillance video images.

On Saturday, police announced they had laid 11 charges against the man, including six counts of administering a noxious substance with intent.

He has also been charged with assault with a weapon, attempted obstruction of justice, counseling an indictable offence not committed, and two counts of failing to comply with a Youth Criminal Justice Act sentence.

The man lives in the Ottawa-Gatineau area but his whereabouts are unknown, said police.
