Washington D.C. sizzles in 100F heat

STORY: :: June 22, 2024

:: Washington, D.C.

:: People try to stay cool as temperatures soar to

100 degrees Fahrenheit in Washington, D.C.

:: "It's very hot. It's too hot!"

:: "I have five bottles of water in the backpack."

:: "It's super hot out here. But I'm used to it. I fight villains like molten man all the time. But, man, today everyone make sure you stay hydrated. Because even me, I get dehydrated. And I gotta make sure I'm always drinking water. Ice cold water for today, guys!"

It was the first time the nation's capital reached the 100 degree mark in nearly eight years, according to local media, and fell one degree short of the record 101 set in 1988.

People out on the city's streets sought relief in fountains, under umbrella-style hats, and in misting tents at a festival near the Capitol Building.

The current heat wave is expected to persist through the weekend, before easing somewhat.
