Watch: Deaf Girl Beams As Santa Claus Goes Through Christmas List Using Sign Language

This is the heartwarming moment a young deaf girl’s wishes come true when Santa Claus uses sign language to go through her Christmas list.

Tilly Morton-Cairns sat down to meet Santa and Mrs Claus at the intu Metrocentre in Gateshead - and was stunned when they communicated with her in a way she could understand easily.

The schoolgirl beamed as Father Christmas chatted using sign language and they all sat and had a three minute chat about reindeers, Frozen and being good.

Tilly’s mum, Hayley, was left in tears as she filmed the meeting at the shopping mall.

She said: “It was absolutely magical.

"Santa was brilliant with her and I’ve never seen anything like that for deaf kids before.”

Tilly, who has been profoundly deaf for most of her life because of an infection called cytomegalovirus (CMV), has been learning British Sign Language at school.

Hayley said Tilly didn’t want to go to visit Santa at first as she finds it difficult to lip-read with his beard in the way.

She added: "But I’d never seen a signing Santa in this country before so I made sure I dragged her down.

“I was bubbling up as I filmed it.”

Staff at the shopping centre have been on a sign language training course to improve the experience for youngsters with hearing difficulties.
