Watch: Late NFLer's mother listens to son's heart beat through Rod Carew's chest
In December of 2016, a year after suffering what doctors labelled a “widow maker” heart attack, former MLB star Rod Carew got a rare second chance at life.
Two weeks before Christmas, former Baltimore Ravens tight end Konrad Reuland died tragically at the age of 29 from a brain aneurism. Carew, a Hall-of-Famer in desperate need of a new heart and kidney, had been patiently waiting for a donor.
In an emotional moment shared on Saturday, one of the greatest hitters of all time sat down with Reuland’s mother, Mary, allowing her to listen to the heart of her late son beating through Carew’s chest.
“It was miraculous,” Mary Told NBC Nightly News. “It was just a wonderful thing to be able to hear a part of my son still here on Earth.”
