Danish Man Claims Apple Watch Left Him With ‘Severe Burns’

A Danish man has claimed he was left with severe burns on his wrist after the strap of his Apple Watch started glowing with heat.

Jorgen Mouitzen nipped to the loo during a flying club meeting, where he suddenly felt a searing pain in his arm.

He said he could smell burning flesh an instant later and realised it was coming from the wrist with the smartwatch on.

“I could smell the burning flesh,” Mouitzen explained. “And the strap was so hot that as I scrambled to try and pull it off my arm, I even burnt my fingers.”

Apple said they have examined Mr Mouitzen’s watch, and found no evidence that it caused his reported injuries.

The tech firm also has a support page where they warn that ‘a small number of people will experience reactions to certain materials’.

Mr Mouitzen claimed he felt as though power was surging through the strap, causing it to heat up and burn his skin.

“There was nothing else around that could have heated the strap up other than the watch.

"I was happy with the watch and generally I’m happy with Apple products, and I’m sure it’s very rare that this should happen however I’m surprised it’s taken them so long to do anything or to help out a customer."
