Watch two alligators locked in cold-blooded combat on South Carolina golf course

It never fails: You're out on the course trying to get in 18 holes, and bam — two apex predators from the Paleogene Period are suddenly locked in deadly combat.

That's what happened at the Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes in Hardeeville, S.C., on Thursday. One golfer, Matthew Proffitt, captured the video and provided a 15-second clip to the club's Facebook account — though they reportedly fought off and on for two hours.

In the clip, the two gators have their jaws locked on each other; the top has a clear hold of its opponent's upper jaw, while the lower one has the lower jaw and leg.

A stark reminder that alligators not only are terrifying, but also don't care a lick about your golf outing.
