Volodymyr Zelensky met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Saturday 13 May, spending 40 minutes in the pontiff’s study discussing the war in Ukraine.

The trip marked the first time Mr Zelensky has met the Pope since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In a Vatican statement, the Pope said he has prayed constantly for Ukraine, as is clear by his frequent public appeals for peace.

During their meeting, the two agreed on the need to continue humanitarian efforts to help the Ukrainian population struggling to survive the war.
