WBO bantamweight champion Zolani Tete needed a mere 11 seconds to record the fastest knockout in world boxing title-fight history on Saturday in Belfast.
With the very first touch of the bout just six seconds in, Tete landed a devastating right hook around the guard of fellow South African Siboniso Gony, knocking his opponent unconscious instantly to record the historic finish.
The hasty victory improved Tete’s professional record to 26-3 with 21 of those wins coming via knockout since making his debut in 2006.
The 118-pounder is viewed by many as one of the best in the world, but has had trouble attracting title bouts against legitimate, top flight opponents throughout his prime. That crushing hook might have something to do with that.
