Voters in the district of Waterford Valley will head to the polls to elect a new MHA on Aug. 22.

Advance polls open on Aug. 15, with general polls opening a week later from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters are choosing a new MHA to replace former Liberal Tom Osborne, the longest serving MHA in Newfoundland and Labrador's history. Osborne held the seat since 1996 and left politics in July.

The Liberal Party is the only of Newfoundland and Labrador's three political parties with a confirmed nominee as of Wednesday — current St. John's city councillor Jamie Korab.

Two people have come forward for the Progressive Conservatives, Kevin Guest and Jesse Wilkins. The nominee will be decided by an in-person vote among party members on Thursday.

In an email to CBC News on Wednesday, NDP media relations manager Stephanie Curran said the party hasn't opened its nomination bid as of yet, but noted that "several individuals" are interested.

The deadline for candidate nominations is Aug. 1.
