Waverley homes and businesses impacted by springtime snow melt

Rising temperatures, melting snow and extra rainfall is forcing some businesses in Waverley to temporarily shut their doors.

Paul Kelly owns the Fall River Service Centre located on the bank of Lake Thomas. He said he noticed the water started rising on Wednesday afternoon.

"The water got up four inches inside the bays. Most of the equipment that we had in the bays was on the ground, so we tried to take it up and put it away," said Kelly.

With part of the facility underwater, the shop has had its capacity to make car repairs cut in half.

"It's really a busy time of year and this really threw a wrench into everything," he said.

His business is just one of many affected by the rising waters. A number of residents also watched their lakeside properties disappear beneath rising waters.

A similar surge happened in December.

"That was the first time that we'd seen it that high in 45 years," said Kelly.

"And this is twice in six months."

By Friday evening, Kelly said water levels had begun to recede. He said he hopes to make it through the spring without any more flooding problems.
