Waving great-granny gets Valentine's Day surprise from Comox Valley teens

A group of teenagers in B.C.'s Comox Valley has shown some tender Valentine's Day spirit by surprising their 86-year-old neighbour with a gift she won't forget.

More than 70 teenagers from Highland Secondary School delivered handmade cards filled with messages of love for Tinney Davidson.

"I was just enthused by them. They're just wonderful children. They just make me feel so good," said Davidson.

For nine years, the great-grandmother has gone to her window every morning to wave and smile at students walking to schools near her home.

On Friday, when she walked up to her front door, she saw something she couldn't believe.

Students gathered in her front yard, each carrying a valentine.

"I was shocked. They kept coming and coming and I just could not believe what I was seeing," she gushed.

They lined up to give her cookies, hugs and messages that left her in tears.

"You know, it's just 'Love you, you're wonderful, you're amazing, love and kisses and everything else,'" recalled Davidson.

Pink and red heart-shaped cards, made from old milk jugs and wire hangers, were placed across her lawn.

Davidson lives alone but between the visits from her family and neighbourhood youths, she says she's found a piece of heaven.

"Well, I think I'm just the luckiest lady alive, really and truly," she said. "I have so much joy from them."

This isn't the first time she has been surprised by students at Highland Secondary.

In 2014, the school recognized her contribution to the community by holding an assembly in her honour.
