Weapons charges possible after bus hold up, police say

Calgary police say weapons charges may be pending after a man boarded a bus, pulled out a knife and wouldn't let people leave yesterday.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. MT after the 25-year-old man boarded the bus at Bowness Road and 67th Street N.W.

Police say he tried to take a passenger's cellphone and that's when he pulled out a knife.

The driver stopped the bus and called police, who took the man into custody about 30 minutes later.

Police say they are looking at whether mental illness or alcohol and drugs may have been factors in the incident.
