Weather alert: ‘Multiple hazards’ in effect for Miami area. What the forecast says

The National Weather Service in Miami issued alerts for “multiple hazards” this weekend in South Florida — one day after Miami set a new high temperature record Friday for the day of 87 degrees.

That beat a record set in Miami of 85 degrees on the same day of the calendar year on Feb. 3, 1985.

Here’s a rundown on the nasty-weather alerts for the weekend:

Wind advisory

Strong east to northeasterly winds could produce gusts up to 40 mph Saturday, especially along coastal Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The weather service issued a wind advisory through 7 p.m. Saturday.

Thunderstorms

The rain chance is at 70% Saturday and 60% in the evening, as the weather service forecast a couple days ago. But the forecast bumped up from 50% to 70% for Sunday.

With these rains, thunderstorms are possible across the eastern half of South Florida Saturday. The main hazards are the gusty winds and potential heavy downpours. Localized flooding is possible Saturday and Sunday.
