Parts of Britain set for 'warmest day of the year' this weekend, with temperatures set to hit 20C
Britain is will experience rising temperatures this weekend in what could be “the warmest day of the year so far” - but the country will endure some gale force winds first, according to forecasters.
Forecasters at the Met Office are predicting temperatures will hit nearly 20C on Sunday, bringing warm weather to parts of the UK.
Parts of London, as well as Manchester, Cambridge and Norfolk are expected to reach highs of 19C.
But before that, areas of the country are due to endure gale force winds, with gusts of up to 75mph forecast across the Shetland Islands.

Windy weather was forecast for Thursday in northern England, while parts of Scotland were due to experience heavy showers and snow on higher ground.
But things are set to improve this weekend, with the mercury rising to create a warmer temperatures for Brits in lockdown to look forward to.

Met Office meterologist Greg Dewhurst told Yahoo News: “We will see temps rising as we go through the weekend into Sunday, so Saturday temps will rise, although there will be fairly cloudy skies at times with highs of 15C.

“On Sunday, across the east of the UK, there will be more sunshine, but there will be rain and colder temperatures in the west.
“Although there will be temps highs of 20C, it will cool down after Sunday into Monday.
“There are certain criteria that would define a heatwave - so, although it is going to warm up on the weekend, it would certainly not last long enough to be categorised as a heatwave.
“19.1C was the warmest day in North Wales so Sunday's temperatures may just edge that and make for warmest day of the year so far.”
The Met Office’s outlook for Saturday to Monday is: “Mostly dry through the weekend with sunny spells. Becoming warm, but also windy.
“Outbreaks of rain moving east later Sunday and into Monday with sunshine and showers following.”
