Week’s Best Celebrity Style: Sarah Jessica Parker, Karolina Kurkova, Rachel McAdams and more

If you blink, you might actually miss this week's top red-carpet trend. A-listers from Gigi Hadid to Julianne Moore slipped into sheer and sultry ensembles that had us doing a double take. Where this barely there style element is concerned, all the impact is found in the negative space.

Take Julianne's black Stella McCartney dress with lacy nude detailing, which she wore to the New York screening of her latest film, Maggie's Plan. It was the right amount of subtle sexiness for the typically fashion-forward star (and bonus points for pairing with sheer peep-toe booties!).

At the Outstanding Mother Awards in New York, fashion's biggest advocate (and mom of three) Sarah Jessica Parker stepped out in a ladylike Huishan Zhang dress with floral cutouts. Topped off with metallic heels from her own line, SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker, the actress looked absolutely adorable.

ALL THE LOOKS FROM THE 2016 MET GALA

Forward-thinking fashion was at its peak at this year's Met Gala, where stars came out in full futuristic gear to suit the evening's theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. Supermodel Karolina Kurkova literally lit up the red carpet with her white tulle Marchesa creation, embroidered with LED flowers. Gigi Hadid attended the Vogue-hosted soiree in a custom Tommy Hilfiger gown with an embellished corset, metallic micro-beaded briefs and a sheer overlay. The model arrived on the (robotic) arm of boyfriend Zayn Malik – their first public outing as a couple.

Spotlight star Rachel McAdams (in a Vivian Chan blouse and skirt combo), Jessica Chastain (in Prada) and style star and Broadway actress Tavi Gevinson (in Coach) were also on trend this week. Plus, Gugu Mbatha-Raw's floral Lela Rose gown with mesh overlay was the perfect combo of ladylike elegance with an understated edge – and proved to be sheer genius.
