Week in photos: The images you must see from the week of Jan. 26

This week, while parts of Canada, the U.S. and Europe were digging out from under blankets of snow, people in other parts of the world were celebrating January and the seasons to come.

Chinese New Year festivities began in China, while in Spain, villagers took part in the traditional Zubieta festival, designed to wake up the Earth.

But even as some celebrated the natural forces of Earth, others found their lives and livelihoods threatened by them.

A working-class neighbourhood in Havana is still recovering from a rare tornado that struck there on Jan. 26, and the death toll in Brazil following a devastating dam collapse has reached 99 and is expected to rise.
