MERRITT MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ASSAULT

A Merritt man has pleaded guilty to assault.

On March 2, 2021, David Ralph Shuter plead guilty to an incident which occurred on a Merritt Transit Bus on June 5, 2020.

Shuter received a Suspended Sentence and 12 months’ Probation.

MERRITT MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

Merritt RCMP were called to the 2900-block of Angus Street within the community of Nooaitch on Jan. 9, 2020 in response to a stabbing that had occurred.

Skyler Washington was arrested and subsequently charged with aggravated assault. The attack was determined to be targeted and police believed there was no threat to the general public.

Washington pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of assault with a weapon on March 4, 2021. He was credited with 264 days of pre-sentence time and thus received a sentence of one day in jail and probation for one year, as well as a Mandatory Firearms Prohibition for ten years.

He was ordered to pay a Victim Surcharge of $200.
