SINGAPORE — Here is a round-up of sports events and developments in Singapore in the past week (1-7 November):
Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon returns in hybrid format next month
The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) will return next month with a hybrid format for the second straight year, with two Grand Finale celebrations – a Virtual Race (VR) Grand Finale that will take place from 1 to 12 December on the SCSM virtual club, and an in-person Grand Finale on 4 and 5 December at The Float@Marina Bay.
The in-person Grand Finale will offer limited slots for fully-vaccinated individuals or individuals with a valid pre-event test (PET) result to participate in three different categories: the 5km, 10km and the Toyota Ekiden (team of four).
While there will be no road closures for the run in Marina Bay, prevailing safe management measures will be in place to safeguard the health and safety of all participants.
Those who prefer to run at a time and route of their preference can sign up for the VR Grand Finale featuring the 5km, 10km, Half Marathon, Kids 1.5km and Kids 3km from 1 to 12 December.
The SCSM virtual club will host a VR Marathon this month, with registered participants completing the total marathon distance of 42.195km over multiple sessions.

Lions head to Dubai for training camp, sans captain Hariss Harun
The Singapore men’s national team will head to Dubai for a training camp from 8 to 17 November as part of preparations for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup.
They will play two friendly matches as part of the training camp: against Kyrgyzstan on 11 November and then against Morocco on 16 November. The match against Kyrgyzstan - ranked 96th in the world - will be an international "A" friendly, while the Morocco match will be a training match where Singapore head coach Tatsuma Yoshida will look to give run-outs to as many players as possible without substitution restrictions.
Captain Hariss Harun has been ruled out of the camp after tested positive for COVID-19 last week. He has been placed in self-isolation and his condition will be further monitored.
A total of 27 players will travel to Dubai, with the five overseas-based players set to link up with the local-based players there. Young Lions striker Ilhan Fandi will be on standby in Singapore.
Singapore will host the 10-team AFF Suzuki Cup from 5 December to 1 January. The Lions will begin their Group A campaign against Myanmar on 5 December, before going on to face the Philippines, Brunei or Timor-Leste, and Thailand.
Izaac Quak, Zhou Jingyi clinch age-group titles in Europe
One week after winning the World Table Tennis (WTT) Youth Contender tournament in Italy, Singapore youth paddler Izaac Quek clinched the Under-19 boys' singles event at the WTT Youth Contender tournament in Szombathely, Hungary on Wednesday (4 November).
The 15-year-old defeated Czech Republic's Adam Stalzer 3-2 to land the title. Earlier on Tuesday, he had finished joint-third in the U-17 boys' singles event, losing to another Czech paddler Simon Belik 2-3 in the semi-finals.
Fellow youth paddler Zhou Jingyi also clinched the U-17 girls' singles title in the same tournament, beating India's Yashaswini Deepak Ghorpade 3-1 in the final on Saturday.
Earlier in the week, she had finished second in both the U-17 and U-19 girls' events at another WTT Youth Contender tournament in Senec, Slovakia. She lost 2-3 to Ghorpade in the U-17 final on Tuesday, and then 0-3 to Australia's Liu Yangzi in the U-19 final on Wednesday.
Her compatriot Ser Lin Qian also finished second in the U-15 girls' event on Wednesday, losing 0-3 to India's Saini Suhana.
SNPC sending 13 para-athletes to Asian Youth Para Games
The Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) has selected 13 youth para-athletes to represent Singapore at the 2021 Asian Youth Para Games (AYPG) in Bahrain from 2 to 6 December.
Boccia athlete Aloysius Gan will be Singapore’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony, while Paralympic bronze medallist Theresa Goh will lead the contingent as chef de mission.
The para-athletes will be taking part in four sports: athletics, boccia, swimming and table tennis. Three of them have participated in the previous AYPG in Dubai in 2017 - Muhammad Nur Ariq Yaakub, Siti Nurhayati Ali Aksar Khan and Colin Soon.
The Singapore contingent will be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and will undergo an additional influenza vaccination before departure. All youth para athletes have been training within a “bubble” to minimise disruptions to their training plans.
