The Weeknd and Rapper Belly Cancel 'Jimmy Kimmel' Performance Because of Donald Trump

While The Weeknd and rapper Belly were set to appear on Wednesday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the performers cancelled their appearance in protest of Kimmel's guest for the evening -- Donald Trump.

Belly, who was slated to perform his 2015 collaboration with The Weekend, "Might Not," released a statement to the Associated Press explaining his decision to cancel stemmed from strongly disagreeing with the GOP presidential candidate's political views.

"I feel like the way I was raised was to be able to see through all the titles in this world — from religion to race," Belly, 35, stated. "I just didn't want to feel like I was a part of a celebration for somebody who has beliefs that majority of us don't agree with."

The rapper, who is Muslim, said he is "on a campaign of positivity and love," and that the business mogul's statements condemning his religion run counter to his inclusive message.

"I create songs people go to sleep and wake up to, songs that they fall in love to," Belly said. "For me, being Muslim and being somebody that appreciates my access here in America, I love the fact that I'm able to be here."

"To play my part in this business is a privilege and a beautiful thing. The fact that I could lose that ability through the actions of someone such as Donald Trump isn't right to me. At all," the artist added.

Trump ended up being Kimmel's only guest of the evening, however the subject of Belly and The Weeknd's cancellation did not come up during their on-air discussion. "Holding On" singer Gregory Porter filled in at the night's musical guest.

Belly and The Weeknd received Oscar nominations at this year's Academy Awards for the song "Earned It" off the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. The 26-year-old Beauty Behind the Madness singer also nabbed two GRAMMY Awards in February and eight Billboard Music Awards last Sunday.
