New welcome signs for Temagami

TEMAGAMI – If you have driven through Temagami lately you may have noticed something different around the municipality.

The townrecently installednew welcome signs along Highway 11, and a sign forthe Temagami NorthTower, that better represent life in Temagami.

There were also new banners put up by the waterfront.

The old welcome signs were becoming faded and rotten and Temagami wanted to give them a facelift.

Temagami Mayor Dan O’Mara said in an email message that the funding for the new signs came from an Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) grant as part of the Main Street Revitalization Initiative.

“The signs are awesome,” he enthused.

“It represents Temagami and who we are as a community. Also, we want to work with the Temagami brand and find ways to promote it and our community.”

Councillor John Shymko also gave kudos to the work done to install the new signs and the banners at Temagami council’s regular meeting on October 8.

“I’d like to call attention to the new signs that we have for Temagami and the banners at the waterfront,” he said.

“They are fantastic, they look great and the public is loving it.”

O’Mara said the municipality had also received positive commentsabout the signs on its Facebook page.
