West Nipissing is one step closer to filling vacant seat

·1 min read

The application period to join West Nipissing council closed this afternoon at two, and six people have thrown their hat in the ring: Melissa Cyr, Jamie Restoule, Normand Roberge, Larry Morin, Fernand Pellerin, and Christine Riberdy.

The call for applicants came after the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing requested the municipality fill the empty Ward 7 seat by no later than June 30th of this year. The Ward 7 seat, which represents Verner, has been empty for almost two years.

Residents were urged to submit an application directly to the Clerk’s office, and now that six people have, West Nipissing is one step closer to fulfilling the ministry’s request.

The next step is for council to interview each candidate, which will occur on Thursday, June 9th, at 6 p.m. The meeting takes place at the municipality’s council chambers at 101-225 Holditch Street in Sturgeon Falls. However, the special meeting will also be live streamed on the municipality’s YouTube channel.

It is expected that after the interviews conclude, council will select a new councillor to represent Ward 7, well ahead of the ministry’s deadline.
