Police are on scene at Western Canada High School following reports of a gun.

The school was locked down for more than an hour Monday, confirms the Calgary Board of Education.

"A student reported a situation involving a physical confrontation outside of the school building. The student came inside and reported the situation to school staff. The school went into lockdown at 12:55 p.m.," the CBE said in an email to parents.

"Calgary Police Service responded to the situation and it was handled quickly. The lockdown ended at about 2:15 p.m. and the school day continued as usual. Students and staff are safe and will be dismissed at the usual time."

Calgary police say they are now conducting a search for any potential perpetrators.

The school is located at 641 17th Ave. S.W.
