The Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs are trying to prevent a pipeline from being built on their traditional land in British Columbia.
Their protests have involved blocking a crucial road leading to an important healing centre on Wet’suwet’en land, as well as the construction zone for the pipeline. But their efforts have also led to arrests by the RCMP, who are enforcing a B.C. Supreme Court injunction.
The conflict has in turn prompted other Indigenous nations, Canadians and environmental groups around the country to stand in protest as they support the Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs.
