Fences have gone up in Thorold’s Battle of Beaverdams Park, as the park begins renovations that have long been in the works.
In May, Greenspace Construction Inc. was awarded a $1.6 million contract to spearhead the renovation of the park. This comes as part of the total $2 million that the city set at its budget meeting, earlier this year, for renovation of the park.
Fences have now gone up around the park as construction has begun.
The renovation plans include replacement of the current playground structure with a new one, a new bandshell, new washrooms, Wi-Fi access, repairs to the fountain at the park and overall improvement in esthetics, according to Sean Dunsmore, manager of engineering for the city of Thorold.
The aim is to have construction completed by Christmas 2021, but with new grass being laid out and it needing time to grow, the park will reportedly be open for operation by spring of 2022.
Just the facts
• $2 million total budget for renovation of the park.
