When Shah Rukh Khan bribed Filmfare to buy an award
This past Sunday, as Manoj Muntashir, the lyricist of the Kesari’s 'Teri Mitti', took to Twitter to slam the Filmfare Awards, a storm took over the micro-blogging website.
A lot of people on the social media platform accused the Filmfare Awards of bias and favouritism, with some even claiming that the jury gives awards for money.
Adding fuel to the fire was an old video of Shah Rukh Khan, which shows him admitting to bribing the Filmfare jury to purchase the ‘Best Actor’ award for 'Baazigar' back in the day.
"I have a lust for awards. And when you have lust, you become desperate and turn into a bad man. I really wanted this award so I went into the editor's office and offered him the money," SRK is heard as saying in the video clip.
None other than Shah Rukh Khan admitting in Aap Ki Adalat that how and why be bought Filmfare awards by paying money because he had extreme lust for awards. In his own words, "Main ghatiya ban gaya."

However, Shah Rukh also claimed that the Filmfare editor refused to take the money, though he got the award anyway. Shah Rukh went on to win seven more Filmfare ’Best Actor’ awards, leading many to allege that SRK had developed a great equation with the Filmfare editor, Khaled Mohamed, and used to either pay up for the awards or perform at the awards function.

It’s interesting to note that Shah Rukh also did a cameo in Khaled's directorial venture, 'Silsilay’.
Bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar have also publicly claimed that they were offered awards by Filmfare in exchange of performing at the awards function for free. Aamir Khan had also accused Filmfare of indulging in malpractice and stopped attending award ceremonies from the mid 1990s.
