Whitehorse man killed in snowmobile crash

A Whitehorse man is dead following a snowmobile accident near Carcross on the Easter weekend.

Shannon Meawasige, 38, was a passenger on the snowmobile. He was pronounced dead of his injuries shortly after Carcross EMS arrived. Meawasige was a member of the Serpent River First Nation in Ontario.

The driver, Wayne Leigh Noseworthy, 35, of Carcross, has been charged with impaired driving causing death.

Noseworthy was treated for minor injuries. He remains in custody pending a court hearing Tuesday.

The crash happened Friday evening at Spirit Lake, north of Carcross.
