There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder — do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do.

On Trial: Logitech MX Anywhere 3 Wireless Mouse

The Tester: Stefan Vazharov — a senior tech editor who’s constantly searching for upgrades to his WFH setup.

The Brief: The latest compact wireless mouse by Logitech is the industry’s new gold standard, and it's worth every letter in its Anywhere moniker.

I’ve been a die-hard fan of the Logitech MX Master 3 wireless mouse since its debut a year ago. Elegant and feature-packed, the do-everything mouse is among my favorite desktop accessories for the PC and Mac — it is excellent in every way.

That’s why, when Logitech gave me the opportunity to test the all-new MX Anywhere 3 wireless mouse that shares hardware bits with the original MX Master 3, I accepted in an instant. The gadget offers the same performance and versatility of Logitech’s MX products in a more compact size that’s perfectly suited for the deskless, remote-work reality that many of us now live in.

Just like the Logitech MX Master 3 mouse, the MX Anywhere 3 has a blisteringly fast, insanely accurate MagSpeed scrolling wheel as its centerpiece. Thanks to built-in electromagnets, it allows users to choose between a mind-bending scrolling speed of up to 1,000 lines per second or enhanced accuracy with the press of a button.

Machined from stainless steel, the MagSpeed scrolling wheel has outstanding tactility, bringing a sense of occasion to even the most mundane interactions. It is a notable improvement over the Hyper-Fast scrolling wheel of the previous generation's Logitech MX Anywhere 2S compact mouse. Being able to instantly get to the top or the bottom of a lengthy page with just a flick of my finger significantly sped up my workflow.

The scrolling capabilities of the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 are complemented by the ability to deliver ultra precise tracking on any surface (hence its apt name). To test this feature out, I used the wireless mouse on various pieces of furniture, a glass coffee table, and a metal side table with consistently impressive results.

Of course, like all MX wireless mice by Logitech, the Anywhere 3 supports the tech giant’s handy Flow feature for multidevice controls. I enjoyed being able to effortlessly transfer files between a MacBook Pro and an all-in-one desktop PC. Getting started with Flow is as easy as pairing the mouse with both devices, installing a desktop app on each, and using them on the same Wi-Fi network. Also, the Logitech Options desktop software gives users the ability to customize the controls of the mouse and monitor its battery levels, among other features.

Except for the different texture on its sides and the contrasting finish of the area where its scrolling wheel, middle button, and status light are located, the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 looks similar to the outgoing MX Anywhere 2S mouse. I like the gadget’s design because it’s comfy and focused on the essentials — there are no unnecessary bells and whistles to distract you while you take care of tasks on your computer.

The mouse can last more than 2 months between charges, and it packs a futureproof USB-C connector. In my weeklong test, I never had to worry about its battery levels while working on it all day.

Closing Argument: I can’t imagine using another wireless mouse besides this one for remote work. With its sleek and compact design, top-tier ergonomics, and exceptional performance regardless of the surface that it's used on, the Anywhere 3 is well worth its $80 price tag. It'll be one of my go-to computer accessories until I return to my Logitech MX Master 3-adorned desk at the office.

Available in black, white, and pink, the mouse is compatible with PC, Mac, and iPadOS, among other platforms. You can pair it via a USB dongle or Bluetooth. An Apple-only Logitech Anywhere 3 without a USB dongle (it only uses Bluetooth) is also available.
