Why does Texas Rangers’ pitcher Nathan Eovaldi give first baseman Nathaniel Lowe $100 bribes?
Nathan Eovaldi will start for the Texas Rangers in Game 5 of the World Series. Before the game, first baseman Nathaniel Lowe revealed a special reason he loves fielding when Eovaldi is on the mound.
Lowe was discussing the team’s improvement on pitchers covering first base.
“From the beginning of spring training with PFPs [pitcher fielding practice] and covering first ... it was a big point emphasis with the whole staff,” said Lowe, “Nathan Eovaldi actually gives me a little something every time I flip him the ball.”
Upon further prodding Lowe revealed what that something was.
“$100, A nice crisp blue strip, so those games where Evo [Eovaldi] gets three of four ground outs, that’s pretty good for me,” joked Lowe.
Eovaldi explained why Lowe flipping him the ball was worth $100.
“I feel like a lot of the times you know we [pitchers] come over there to cover the bag and he [Lowe] wants to take it himself. I’m like I’m already over there, like flip me the ball,” said Eovaldi.
Eovaldi joked the $100 was his way of making sure Lowe flipped him the ball.
