Why Rihanna Skipped the 2023 Grammys

In a week, all eyes will be on Rihanna as she performs at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. But at tonight's Grammys, the singer didn't make a red carpet appearance.

Rihanna wasn't necessarily expected to appear at the Grammys, given how close her Super Bowl performance is and the fact that neither the singer nor her boyfriend A$AP Rocky are nominated for any awards. She has no reason to attend the Grammys this year, but next year, that could change. The Sun reported that there are rumors that Rihanna may be announcing a tour at the Super Bowl, another strong hint that long-waiting Rihanna fans may finally get new music from her.

Rihanna addressed speculation that her Super Bowl performance was a hint she was finally going to release a new album during an Associated Press interview in November. She shut it down. “That’s not true,” she said. “Super Bowl is one thing. New music is another thing. Do you hear that, fans?”

“The second that I announced this, I said, ‘Oh, my God, they’re going to think my album is coming. I need to get to work,’” she added.

In an interview published in April, Rihanna spoke a little to Vogue about the album, saying, “I’m looking at my next project completely differently from the way I had wanted to put it out before. I think this way suits me better, a lot better. It’s authentic, it’ll be fun for me, and it takes a lot of the pressure off.”
