Why Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr. Ordered Pizza for Their Family Thanksgiving Dinner
The couple spent the holiday in Australia as Prinze Jr. worked on the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' reboot
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. had an unforgettable Thanksgiving abroad.
While appearing on the Tuesday, Dec. 10 edition of Live with Kelly and Mark, Gellar, 47, opened up about how her family celebrated the holiday. She revealed that they were in Australia, as Prince Jr., 48, was filming the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.
"Well, first of all, it’s warm. So there’s the plus right there. And we had these great plans. Freddie was working and we were going to all have dinner. It was going to be Jen [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson], the director," recalled Gellar.

"We were in a car, it was my daughter Charlotte, who’s 15 ... and Rocky and Freddie were in another car. And it rained, which, it does rain in Australia," said Gellar. "But for some reason, it shut the world down."
According to the actress, who met Prinze. Jr on the original 1997 horror film set, the weather caused them to be stuck in a tunnel for almost an hour.
"Tunnels don’t freak me out… [but] by the time we got out of the tunnel, it was so late. And I was like, 'Ugh, guys, I can’t even eat anymore.' So we ordered pizza," she said.
After host Kelly Ripa expressed that she loved the fact that Gellar had pizza on Thanksgiving, Gellar said, "There’s nothing wrong with pizza, ever."
"They do pretty much good everything. The coffee is out of control in Australia," said Gellar.

While Prinze Jr. will return as Ray Bronson in the new reboot, which is expected to be released on July 18, 2025, Gellar told PEOPLE in October that she will not reprise her role as Helen Shivers, as her character died in the original 1997 film.

"My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity," she told PEOPLE. "So I'm always the one telling her, 'Well, that would happen, or that wouldn't happen with those characters,' so I do have kind of an unofficial job title."
