Beavers arrive at Ottawa International Airport

A pair of beavers caused a bit of a stir when they wandered onto a staircase at the Ottawa International Airport Tuesday morning.

Stephanie Shanks spotted the wayward rodents in an outdoor stairwell near the OC Transpo stop at the airport's arrivals area just after 7:30 a.m.

She said security staff were keeping an eye on them.

Krista Kealey of the Ottawa International Airport Authority said airport staff coaxed one of the beavers into a carrier and a wildlife expert managed to capture the second one.

The pair were returned to a more beaver-friendly habitat than the airport terminal.

Kealey said she only knows of one other time when a beaver made its way onto airport property, when one burrowed under a fence and was quickly captured.

The beavers' adventure caps off a month of unusual stories involving wild animals and transportation in Ottawa.
