Windsor man carrying sawed-off shotgun arrested after robbery victim wrestles weapon away

Windsor man faces assault charges after beating woman while she waited for the bus

A Windsor man who was carrying a sawed-off shotgun in a bag faces a long list of charges after the woman he robbed wrestled it away from him.

The woman was arriving at work around 11:10 a.m. when a man forced his way past her and into a business near the corner of Tecumseh Road East and Chandler Road.

After demanding cash, the man threatened that he had a gun in the bag. The woman grabbed the bag and fought with the man for it, according to police. She ran out of the business, yelling for help, but the man caught up with her outside and continued attacking her, wrote Cost. Andrew Drouillard in a media release.

Another person heard the employee's cries as she fought off her attacker and called police, causing the suspect to run away while the woman managed to keep his bag.

Police found the injured woman sitting in the parking lot and discovered a sawed-off shotgun after searching through the bag.

Officers fanned out across the neighbourhood and eventually found the man hiding in a nearby shed.

A 28-year-old Windsor man has been charged with several gun charges including two counts of robbery with a weapon, pointing a firearm and possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence.
