Windsor police evacuate Walmart, arrest man for making death threats

Windsor man charged with break and enter of downtown business

Police evacuated the Walmart in the city's east end Sunday after arresting a man who allegedly threatened to kill a relative.

Officers were hunting for the man after his brother reported him to Windsor police for sending threatening text messages.

Police say the man suffered from drug addiction and had access to guns.

"The content of the messages and photos led officers to have a genuine concern for the safety of the 25-year-old man," police wrote in a news release.

The search for the man ended around 5:25 p.m. when officers found his vehicle parked outside the Walmart. Police contacted store management and arrested the man when he left the building.

Officers then evacuated the store to search for any weapons that may have been left behind. No weapons were found in the store, but police seized a rifle from the trunk of the man's car.

He is charged with two counts of uttering death threats.
