Windsor psychotherapist faces disciplinary hearing for alleged sex with client

A Windsor psychotherapist is facing a disciplinary hearing over allegations she had sex with two clients and served alcohol to members of a therapy group while intoxicated herself.

Elisabeth Haramic has also been accused of illegally referring to herself as a doctor and sending a client "unprofessional, threatening or abusive" messages, according to the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario.

An 11-page notice of hearing details the accusations that the psychotherapist slept with a person she was treating starting in 2009. In another instance, it's alleged she had sex with another former client from 2012 to 2015.

Haramic, though, plans to fight all allegations, according to her lawyer Michael Gordner.

"She has not, in fact, been involved in any professional misconduct," he said. "She wishes to vigorously defend all these allegations."

Licence revoked

A hearing date has yet to be set, but Haramic's licence has been revoked since April 20 for "making a false or misleading statement or representation" while applying for registration, according to the document from the college.

A complaint from 2011 also states Haramic was intoxicated while leading a therapy group and served alcohol to its members.

After the incident, the ethics committee of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association requested Haramic complete "remedial activities," but it's alleged the Windsor woman did not disclose all of the complaints against her when she applied for her licence.

Gordner said his client has not been practicing since having her license revoked, but she plans to have that decision overturned as well, at least until the hearing has been completed.
