Windsor shatters record cold temperature

Windsor broke a cold weather record Monday morning.

Temperatures hit -26 C as of 7 a.m. at the Windsor Airport, shattering a previous record of -18.5 C set in 1979, according to Environment Canada's historical data online.

A mix of bitterly cold Arctic air is combining with light northerly winds could make it feel like -35 C when the wind chill is factored in, warns the weather agency.

The city was placed under an extreme cold warning over the weekend. It lasted into early Monday morning but Environment Canada lifted the warning before noon.
