Windsor-Walkerville Fringe Festival ready to roll
The performances at this year's fringe festival have been billed as funny, zany and even downright acrobatic.
No matter what the audience's preference — musicals, comedies, magic — there's something for everyone to see, explained Marian Drouillard, spokesperson for the Windsor-Walkerville Fringe Festival, which kicks off Thursday at the Olde Walkerville Theatre.
"Anything you can think of that's on stage that can entertain you, it looks like we got it," she said.
Gone Mental is one of the off-the-wall shows described as an "evening of mentalism, magic and mayhem." Then there's The Old Hag in the Bag, another comedy that incorporates circus skills and visual theatre to tell the story of an elderly woman who just landed in an old-age home.
In the second year of the fringe festival, organizers have introduced an opening night kick-off party that gives performers from each show a chance to present a snippet of their performance as a way to entice audiences to come back for the real deal.
The kick off is scheduled for Thursday night.
"This is where I'm going to get to see the performers for the first time as well," Droulliard said. "This is their chance and their time to reel us in."
