Windsor's outdoor patios to remain open through January

In what could be seen as another sign that winter hasn't really arrived yet in Windsor, the city will allow outdoor sidewalk cafés to stay open until the end of January.

Coun. Fulvio Valentinis said council extended the deadline while staff work on a report to regulate winter patios.

"What we don't want is people abusing that, just creating a holding zone, a place to throw your cigarette butts. That's what the downtown BIA was concerned about," Valentinis said. "They want some festive decorations, some greenery, make sure they're clean. Don't just stack chairs out there."

Environment Canada says chances of a white Christmas in Windsor are slim to none.
