It's going to be a blustery Halloween for all the trick-or-treaters, Environment Canada forecasted Thursday afternoon.

A special weather statement is in effect for Windsor-Essex. According to the weather agency, wind gusts could near 70 km/h and "gusty winds will continue through late [Thursday] evening and possibly overnight."

Areas near the Great Lakes shorelines could experience winds of nearly 80 km/h.

"Winds are expected to diminish slowly through Friday morning," Environment Canada said. "Impacts could include broken tree limbs and local power outages."

The Windsor Police Service reminded drivers to slow down and drive cautiously this Halloween with kids out and about. Drivers are asked to put headlights on before it gets dark and drive well below the speed limit in residential areas. Trick-or-treaters should stay on sidewalks, use crosswalks and trick-or-treat in groups or with family, police say.
