Winnipeg police close Waverley Street at Hurst Way after crash

Winnipeg police closed down lanes at the corner of Waverley Street and Hurst Way Friday night after a serious crash that sent two people to hospital.

Police were called to the intersection at about 7 p.m. after reports of a crash involving a car and a Jeep. Two people — one from each vehicle — were taken to hospital in stable condition, police said.

The Jeep was tipped on its side in the curbside southbound lane of Waverley Street, while the mangled four-door car remained in the intersection as of 9 p.m. as police investigated the scene.

Northbound Waverley traffic was down to one lane, while southbound traffic was completely rerouted down Sterling Lyon Parkway.

The cause of the crash isn't yet known.
