Woman, teen rushed to hospital after North End shooting

Man charged in shooting that sent woman, boy to hospital

A woman and teenaged boy were rushed to hospital after a shooting in Winnipeg's North End early Saturday morning.

Officers were called out to Aikins Street, just north of Mountain Avenue, around 4 a.m. Police spokesperson Const. Jay Murray said there was a get-together and a number of people were at the house.

When police arrived they found an injured woman, who was taken to hospital in critical condition. She has since been upgraded to stable condition. The teenager was also taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Murray said investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what happened.

"We have a number of individuals here at headquarters right now," said Murray. "Members of our major crimes unit are currently interviewing a number of witnesses."

No description of the shooter has been released but Murray said it's possible some of the witnesses may also be suspects.

Police could not yet say whether the two victims were related but Murray said he does not believe they were mother and son.
