Worried parents search for daughter, 21, missing in Winnipeg
The parents of 21-year-old Christine Wood are worried sick after not hearing from their daughter for almost a week.
"I'm really worried," said Melinda Wood, Christine's mother. "I'm trying to stay focused, trying to think positive but sometimes my mind goes somewhere else."
George and Melinda Wood last saw their daughter on Aug. 19 around 9:30 p.m. The couple left their hotel room near Sargent Avenue and Berry Street to run to the store, but when they returned Christine was gone.
"We knew she was getting ready to go out for the night but when we got back she already left," said George.
The Woods are from Oxford House First Nation and were in Winnipeg to accompany a family member to a medical appointment.
Christine was travelling between Winnipeg and her home community for the past year. She was set to return to Oxford House with her parents on Sunday.
"We were expecting her to return because she knew we were going to head back north that day," George said.
"I texted her, asked her, 'Are you coming to the hotel? Are you coming back?' She never responded," Melinda added.
When their daughter didn't return, the parents said they knew something was wrong. They filed a missing persons report with the Winnipeg Police and decided to stay in the city to search for their daughter.
George and Melinda said they have never gone this long without hearing from Christine.
"It's not like her to be missing this long. She's the kind of person that would want to change," Melinda said, adding all of Christine's clothing was left in the hotel room.
Christine was last seen wearing a green top with a red striped Adidas jacket. She was also wearing denim shorts and carrying a white purse.
"One of the things we are puzzled with is where she went and who she went out to meet," George said.
The family has reached out to some of Christine's friends on social media for answers but George said they haven't responded.
"I want them to come forward. Somebody must know something. She has friends here," Melinda said.
"I'm just really worried. It's not like her at all not to respond to me."
Friends and family are out searching for Wood and they have also contacted the Bear Clan to help in their search.
Wood is described as five-foot-six, average build with shoulder length dark brown hair.
