Winnipeggers face cold, windy Monday morning but milder afternoon

Brace yourself if you're heading outside on Monday morning in southern Manitoba.

Blowing snow and a frigid wind chill are going to make it feel rather uncomfortable, though not as bad as during Sunday's blizzard warning when the strongest wind gusts clocked in at 80 km/h in Winnipeg.

There wasn't much fresh snowfall in Winnipeg on Sunday — just one centimetre — but the wind whipped it into drifts that were much higher. Environment Canada said the highest snowfall was in Arborg, which received 10 cm.

If you're not planning on going out until later Monday, things will be much nicer. The winds are expected to drop off in the afternoon and the daytime high in Winnipeg should be close to normal for this time of year.

Winnipeg forecast for Monday

- High –11 C.

- Morning wind chill of –27.

- A few flurries ending this morning then clearing.

- Wind north 40 km/h gusting to 60 km/h but becoming light in afternoon.

- TONIGHT clear.

- Wind around 15 km/h.

- Overnight low –22 C with a wind chill of –30.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are a daytime high of –9 C and an overnight low of –20 C.
