Winnipeg's High Tea Bakery makes imperial cookies to welcome royal baby

Belinda Bigold, owner of Winnipeg's High Tea Bakery, is busier than usual on Saturday making imperial cookies with small, pink crowns to celebrate the royal baby.

"We're doing our traditional thing, which we always do for the royals, which are crowns on our little imperial cookies, but this time in baby pink for the new little princess," she said.

While she knew Kate Middleton was pregnant, the birth caught her off guard.

"The first call my sister got this morning, we weren't even open yet, and already it was like, 'The royal baby's been born. Will you have your imperials out?'" Bigold said while laughing.

"I lost track of time."

She says Canada's loyal following of the royal family and Winnipeg's love of imperial cookies make the treat popular in the city.

"If you can tie those two together, people are happy as clams."

If you want to get one (or a few...) High Tea Bakery is open until 5 p.m. on Saturday.
