PHOTOS: Winter weather blasts Canada

Snow fell in many parts of the country over the weekend, with most of Newfoundland getting the brunt of it. On Monday, the army was called in to help dig out residents after more than 100cm of snow piled up on Friday and throughout the weekend. While many are making the best of it with snowboards and skis, a state of emergency remained in effect for the fourth day on Monday, as it remains hazardous to residents and rescue crews alike.

Significant snow fell in Ontario, too, with Toronto already at 126 per cent of its typical snowfall. Another weather system is expected to hit Ontario next weekend, with potential for a rain/snow mix.
