One resident said: “I’d just been to the bins at the back of the flats when I heard awful blood curdling screams.

“It’s normally loud around here with kids playing out and music going but this was different.

“I ran inside and a few minutes later the place was crawling with police.

“A friend of mine lives closer to where it happened and told me they heard someone shouting ‘no no don’t do it!’”

Another resident living near the scene said: "It is awful that some young man has lost his life. I really hope the police find the suspect and quickly.

“Everyone on the street is shocked by this mindless violence and my thoughts go out to his family."
