Husband sought after wife, 9 months pregnant, killed in Pickering

Pregnant Pickering woman suffered 'sharp force trauma' before she died

A woman found dead in a Pickering home on Friday night was nine months pregnant and Durham police have issued an arrest warrant for her husband.

Police have identified the woman as Arianna Goberdhan, 27, of Ajax. Police said her baby did not survive.

An arrest warrant for second degree murder has been issued for her husband, Nicholas Tyler Baig, 25.

Police said Baig was last seen operating a black 2015 Infinity with the licence plate BVBP480. Homicide investigators are continuing to try to contact him.

Body found with obvious signs of trauma

Police said officers found Goberdhan's body with obvious signs of trauma after they received a call about a domestic disturbance at a residence on Winville Road, near Taunton and Brock Roads, at about 9:45 p.m.

Police said Goberdhan was pronounced dead on the scene.

Staff Sgt. Peter Cousins, duty inspector, said investigators are treating the sudden death as a homicide and are continuing to look for "the male partner in the relationship."

"It's in the very early stages of the investigation," Cousins said.

Govindar Jit, who lives in the area, called news of his neighbour's death "shocking." A family lives in the home where the investigation is taking place, he said, including parents and two grown sons, and "one of them was married."

"They seemed like a really nice family," Jit said.

The death is the fifth homicide in Durham region this year, according to police.

Anyone with information about the sudden death is urged to call Det. Short (ext. 5401) or Det. Horrocks (ext. 5418) of the DRPS Major Crime - Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520.

Anonymous information can be sent to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
